Rolex thief suspect, Holly. Photo from the NOPD. |
That's got to be one of the worst dates ever.
Here are the details from the New Orleans Police Department:
The incident took place October 18, 2015, inside of a room at the Bourbon Orleans Hotel.
The victim entered his room with a female only known to him by the name of Holly. When the victim woke up at approximately 5:00 a.m., Holly was no longer in his room and he discovered his Air King Rolex watch valued at $8,000, his Tag Heur watch valued at $2,000 and $800.00 in United States currency stolen.
The suspect was described as a light complexion black female, 21 to 22 years old and about 5’3” to 5’4” tall.

It's hard to resist speculating about this and I won't resist. How did the police get a copy of Holly's photo? It's not a mug shot and it's not from a security camera. I guess that Holly let this man take her photo. She likely did that before she found that he had two nice watches for the taking. Otherwise, she's not the brightest bulb in New Orleans' French Quarter.
Was he wearing his Tag Heuer or Rolex when they met? Carrying my armchair speculation a little further, I think it was the Tag, because if Holly had larceny in her heart from the moment they met, she wouldn't have let him take her photograph. Holly didn't decide to steal his watches until she saw the Rolex later on—nobody makes plans to steal a Tag Heuer. Right? If Tags were frequently stolen, you'd expect the New Orleans Police to spell Heuer correctly.
Is Holly an opportunist, who saw a good thing on the evening of October 18th and took advantage of the moment to acquire a Rolex without having to pay for it? Or is there a methodically plotting Rolex thief in New Orleans? If the New Orleans police catch her, we will find out, but until then, speculation is our friend.

My advice: Next time you go on a trip, take a few minutes to learn how to use the hotel safe. Oh, and even if you don't keep your pants on, do keep your Rolex on.
